Mr Jason Harvey MBBS, FRCSEd, FRCS(Tr&Orth)
Personal Profile
Mr Harvey trained at St Georges Hospital London qualifying in 1992 and then undertook postgraduate surgical training within the Wessex regional orthopaedic training programme, where he developed an interest in spinal surgery. As well as training in Spinal Centres at Southampton and Bristol he completed a twelve month AO Spinal Fellowship in Brisbane, Australia, where he obtained experience in elective and emergency spinal care as well as learning new techniques in spinal surgery.
Mr Harvey was appointed as an NHS Consultant in 2004 to develop the adult spinal services within a large and rapidly expanding orthopaedic unit in Portsmouth. Mr Harvey was the lead surgeon for the Portsmouth spinal surgical service until he joined the New Wessex Spinal Service at University Hospital Southampton in 2018.
Mr Harvey’s practice involves all aspects of adult spinal care. He performs spinal surgery within the neck, lower back and thoracic spine, as well as performing pain relieving injections in the spine where appropriate. He has a special interest in management of back and neck pain as well as cervical disc replacement surgery.
Mr Harvey continues to have a research interest in spinal surgery and has contributed to several spinal surgery text books as well as articles published in peer reviewed spinal journals. He continues to be an internationally invited speaker teaching cervical spine surgery.
Mr Harvey has a private practice in Hampshire and West Sussex.
Mr Harvey is married with three teenage children, who occupy the majority of his spare time. When time allows he enjoys road cycling.
