Mr Jason Harvey MBBS, FRCSEd, FRCS(Tr&Orth)
Personal Profile
I trained at St Georges Hospital London qualifying in 1992. My orthopaedic training was within the Wessex regional orthopaedic training programme, where I soon developed an interest in spinal surgery. As well as training in the Spinal Centres at Southampton and Bristol I have completed a twelve month AO Spinal Fellowship in Brisbane, Australia, where I learnt new techniques in both adult and paediatric spinal surgery. I also had the opportunity to work within the regional spinal injuries unit, treating spinal emergencies.
I was appointed as an NHS Consultant in 2004 to develop the adult spinal services within a large and rapidly expanding orthopaedic unit in Portsmouth.
My practice involves all aspects of spinal care. I perform spinal surgery within the neck, lower back and thoracic spine, as well as performing pain relieving injections of the spine where appropriate. I have a special interest in management of back and neck pain as well as cervical disc replacement surgery.
My research interests include the use of cervical disc replacements. Queen Alexandra Hospital has been appointed as the national training centre for Prodisc C Cervical disc implantation. This provides me with opportunity to teach consultant colleagues, from other hospitals this new and exciting technique.
I have a private practice based in West London (West London Spine Clinic, based at The Lister Hospital Chelsea) as well as a practice within Hampshire and West Sussex
I am married with three young children, who occupy the majority of my spare time. When time allows I enjoy cycling and sailing.
